Sports Day at Bukbisan!

After 2 weeks of preparation including coloring, choreographing, racing, and costuming, my new school Bukbisan had a huge sports day. I liken sports day to my experience with the operetta at my grade school. I remember we didn't have any class after lunch for a month and we just practiced for the show. I loved it! In Korea, sports day is pretty similar. Practice, practice, practice to show off to the parents your skills.

Our sports day started out pretty crappy. It rained until 8 that morning and after it stopped all students were called to duty. They got dust pans to get the water from the puddles into buckets and poured new sand on extra soggy spots. Here is a picture of the first crew out.

Luckily, they are a hard working bunch and we were up and running only 20 minutes behind schedule. We started off with a parade. I was MC so I didn't take too many pictures of this.

Next, there were races!

In between the races all the classes put on performances. The little ones were so cute!

There was even some fun for the grandparents... fish for ramen!

After, competitions of tug-o-war and a ball game.

Lastly MY FAVORITE was the 5th and 6th grade performance. They did a fan dance in traditional clothing, I was pretty impressed. Here are some pre-performance pictures. There are some gem faces.

And their performance! The end is my favorite :)

All in all a lovely day with the kids where we could goof around and have fun.

Long time, no see!

It's been quite a long time since I've checked in here. Things have been pretty busy. I am taking Korean lessons two times a week, school is in full swing and the weather has been beautiful. Yesterday felt like the first day of summer and judging by the weather reports, it is here to stay!

Last week we had sports day, basically a school Olympics. It was so much fun to see the kids compete. It got pretty competitive! The first place scores were added wrong, which meant many tears were shed when they had to relinquish their title and tears for the new first place because they didn't get the ceremony they deserved. How unfair life is!

 Here are the cuties!

The little things.

I get soooo much enjoyment reading the comments to the songs I use for my 3rd grade classes. It's pretty great reading 14 year old nostalgia and how much they love them. While this is not the absolute best example since it doesn't have a lot of preteens saying how they "loved this song" (I think they really mean love), but I love this duck counting song, so we will use it as the example.  Here is the song:
And the comments:

Im 14 but these songs are epic.
im like 11 and i actually very much enjoy this song i like song
Matt this is a great song and thanks it helped my baby brother

English Festival

So school is now over and now it's time for winter camp, then vacation! We had our English Festival two weeks ago, it went pretty well. Most of the students worked really hard and the only large issues that arose where technical ones (including me breaking a usb port, eek!) Here is a short video of my favorite fourth grade class acting  and my least favorite third grade class singing. Oopsies, did I write that? I mean I love all my students equally...

Lesson Plannings Path Part 2

I've been researching ways to teach two consonant phonics for after finals next week and I wanted a video to go with it. So alas, I followed the You Tube trail and ended up at this gem. Morgan Freeman as you have never seen him before (or maybe you have)

Also, lesson planning's path part 1.

Kick you in the pants cute!

Korean kids are the cutest. My class skyped with my family and everyone was in love with how adorable they all are. It also helps that when they meet new people they always give compliments. 'Mother is very beautiful', 'father is very handsome' and 'beard suits father' were some of the many compliments given.

Here are a few pictures of the cutest monsters you will ever meet.

Life LOLZ

I posted about this sight earlier when I wasn't able to write and recently I checked back and everything became so much more funny now that I'm here. I decided to share these two which made me laugh so hard that hopefully you will at least have a chuckle.

At lunch, when nobody talks to me in the cafeteria
I just sit there like…

When my Korean coteacher scolds my students in front of me…
I just look around like….

My other favorite Korea blogs.

Korea Students Speak Project

One thing I am extra excited about is creating projects and activities for the students I teach in Korea. Here is an inspired project a teacher thought up to help children express themselves in a creative way.

I hear ya.
