Bike to Work Tips

I bike to work on most days and love the freedom, fresh air and exercise it gives me. Many people think bicyclists are a little crazy because of the potentially dangerous situations we face and wonder why anyone would want to sweat before work. I have some tips on how to take some of the stress out of biking, and get back to fun.

1. Take the long, safe way. Would you rather take the direct, stressful ride with not enough room between you and cars, or relaxing ride on a bike lane with fellow cyclists to say hello to? I think we all know which one wins.

2. Breath. I think most of us could use this reminder. You will get to where you are going, no need to rush. All you need is to enjoy the ride.

3. Respect everyone. Follow all those rules of the road and be the bigger, smarter person. (And to that car who cut you off, if you can take revenge by politly schooling them on the rules of the road. If they get away, bitch them out in your head for only 2 minutes then follow tip #2.

3. Dress for the ride. I like to look cute when I bike and its pretty easy. I wear a long enough skirt and a cute tank. Add big sunglasses, lipstick and a smile to be the envy of the people you pass. At work, I take ten to cool off, a little wetnap action and change tops. Whala!

*Plus some fab helmet hair recommendations.

4. If you don't want to bike today, then don't. Chances are you will be sick of being crammed in a train or bus and will rejoice the freedom when you get back on a bike.

Last reason to ride, you always get a seat.
Do you have any tips for a great ride?
